Edmunds.com recently released the results of the latest consumer’s poll, and the 2012 Nissan Xterra and Frontier both made the list of favorite off-roaders.
The 2012 Nissan Xterra is just as ready to get down and dirty as it is to haul groceries. The high ground clearance and truck-based body and suspension make the Xterra more than capable on rough terrain.
The Xterra is available in three trim levels, the X, S, and Pro-4X. All models are powered by a 4.0L V6 engine with 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. All models have a five-speed automatic transmission, with the addition of a six-speed manual option in the Pro-4X trim level. The Pro-4X is also the only model with standard four-wheel drive.
Also voted as one of the best off-roaders, the 2012 Nissan Frontier was a top pick from the small pickup class. Available in four trim levels, the S, SV, PRO-4X and SL, the Nissan Frontier is versatile enough to make it rough and rugged for off-roading, or smooth and practical for daily driving.
The 2012 Frontier offers two engine options, a 2.5L four cylinder that produces 152 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque, and a 4.0L V6 with 261 hp and 288 lb-ft of torque. There are two-wheel and four-wheel drive options, as well as six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions. Properly equipped, the Nissan Frontier is able to tow up to 6,500 pounds.
