Nissan’s Canton Plant Now Supports More Than 6,000 Manufacturing Jobs

2015 Nissan Murano

Nissan opened 1,300 new jobs at its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant to help support production of the new Murano, including 400 new supplier jobs.

This is the first time Nissan will manufacture a global product at the facility, which already builds eight other vehicles alongside it. The move is part of Nissan’s goal to build where it sells—the current objective is targeting 85% of the vehicles it sells in the United States produced in North America by 2015.

Since its opening in 2003, Nissan has invested nearly $2.8 billion in the Nissan Canton plant and grown it to support more than 6,000 manufacturing jobs. It is currently responsible for the manufacturing of the Altima, Armada, Titan, Frontier, Xterra, and NV, all of which you can find here at Bates Nissan.

“Since I started with Nissan 11 years ago I’ve watched this plant grow, and I’ve had the opportunity to work on some of Nissan’s most popular vehicles,” said Christina Doss, Nissan Canton technician and member of the Murano launch team. “It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and now that we’re producing the Murano here, I get to tell friends and family that I work on vehicles that are shipped around the world.”

Leaf Production to Increase in US

Leaf production moves to TNNissan announced yesterday their intentions to have the all-electric Leaf production increased in the Tennessee factory.

Earlier in the year, Nissan announced a price cut for buyers interested in the Leaf which created a substantial boost in demand for this vehicle, and the demand is calling for bigger production numbers. Nissan executive Jose Munoz said he expects to see an increased number of Leafs available to dealerships starting as early as next month.

The Leaf is currently the least expensive five-seat plug-in vehicle in the country, starting at $28,800 and since January sales have more than doubled. In October alone, Nissan saw a 27 percent rise from sales in 2012 and in 2012 Nissan sold 9,819 Leafs in the US.
