When you think of automakers that are dedicated to developing cleaner, greener vehicle options for the market, Nissan is probably in your top three. The company has been making major strides in the industry in the way of making their production processes more eco-friendly and their vehicles more eco-conscious. The development of a brand-new type of fuel is no laughing matter, which is exactly what happened when Nissan revealed the first-ever Solid-Oxide Fuel Cell vehicle recently.

The vehicle is said to run of bio-ethanol electric power, according to Nissan representatives. Not only will ethanol-blended water be safer and easier to handle than other forms of fuel, it also produces zero emissions. The ethanol will be used by the vehicle to power its 24kWh battery, which in turn will allow the vehicle’s charge to last for a whopping 600km (almost 373 miles) without refueling.

Research and development on the Solid-Oxide Fuel Cell vehicle has already begun at Nissan’s plant in Yokohama, Japan and further field tests will be conducted in Brazil. Due to its low running costs, clean carbon-neutral fuel consumption, and highly efficient powertrain, Nissan is hopeful that the powertrain will revolutionize the auto industry for a cleaner, better, more environmentally responsible future.

To the Outer Limits and Beyond: The Glow-in-The-Dark Nissan Leaf

Nissan LEAF

If only Mulder and Scully could see this – a glowing leaf is out there!

In a revelation sure to impress the X-files detectives themselves, Nissan disclosed its newest exciting innovation; the glow-in-the-dark Nissan Leaf. While third party manufacturers have produced luminous paints and car wraps, Nissan is the first car company to fabricate an actual incandescent vehicle.

In an effort to symbolize the Leaf’s energy-converting EV capabilities, Nissan partnered with Hamish Scott, the inventor of glow-in-dark pavement, to create the glowing paint – fittingly – named Starpath. Comprised of a secret formula of organic materials and the biologically inert chemical Strontium Aluminate, the paint is able to absorb the ultraviolet energy from the sun during the day and convert it to light that shines 8-10 hours during the night. If commercially made, the glow-paint could last for up to 25 years.

While this illuminating paint is not –yet- available to the public, stay tuned to Bates Nissan for Starpath updates, and be sure to come visit us to see all of the newest –out there – innovations that Nissan has to offer!

Best Global Green Brands Ranks Nissan 4th, Still Improving

Best Global Green Brands - Nissan

Vehicles like the Nissan LEAF help to earn them the 4th place spot in the Best Global Green Brands.

How often do you hear the words, “Go green,” rattled through activist groups, your parent-teacher meetings, your community, or whatever it is you are taking part in? Is it a lot? Because automotive companies, like Nissan, are saying it a lot too. That may be one of the reasons that InterBrand has ranked Nissan fourth overall for the Best Global Green Brands.

That’s right, you read it correctly. Nissan has moved to fourth in the Best Global Green Brands ranking, improving on its fifth place rank last year. Nothing but improvement is coming from Nissan every year for going green. In fact, when the company placed fifth last year, it was the first time that they had broken into the top 10, and now they are ranked fourth! That deserves a round of applause. (Don’t worry we will wait)

“More and more people want to buy products from brands that come from organizations they trust and believe in,” said Roel De Vries, Nissan corporate vice president responsible for Global Marketing, Brand and Communications. “Best Green Global Brands is a reflection of everything that we as a brand do to make the world a better place. That we are recognized this year as among the best is a confirmation we are on the right path.” (See the full Nissan news release here)
