Nissan Issues Recall for 2012-14 Frontier Pickups

2013 Nissan Frontier Recall

The 2013 NIssan Frontier was involved in the recall.

Nobody likes to hear that something might be wrong with their car…particularly when that potential something wrong . But when you can get free repairs to ensure the health of your vehicle and your own safety, there’s something of a silver lining to be found.

Nissan has issued a recall affecting 13,535 Frontier pickup trucks in the United States. The reason is an electrical issue that could cause a fire; however, no fires or injuries have been reported. The potential issue is with a circuit breaker that was installed incorrectly in model year 2012 through 2014 trucks.

According to the NHTSA’s recall notice, incorrectly-installed circuit breakers could lead to the main wire harness facing outward and contacting a metal bolt on the vehicle’s A-pillar. This could result in wearing, shortages, and eventually, fire.

All owners of the affected trucks will receive a notification in the mail about the recall. They can then make an appointment with any Nissan dealership to have their trucks inspected and repaired free of charge. Notifications will being going out early next month.

2012-14 Frontier owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261, and they may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or through www.safercar.gov.

If you have any questions about this recall or want to see if you own a recalled truck, you can also call us at Bates Nissan and we’ll help you out.

Nissan LEAF Routed Competition in Europe in 2013

Nissan LEAF

The Nissan LEAF quickly revved its way into first place in the electric vehicle (EV) market upon its release several years ago and only continues to cement its place at the top. Nissan recently finished calculating LEAF sales in Europe for 2013—and the results are staggering and impressive. The LEAF now owns a 33 percent share of the EV segment in Europe, outselling even the closest competition by over 25 percent last year. 2013 was easily a record sales year for the LEAF in Europe, moving 5,600 more cars than the brand moved in 2012.

The amazing year for the LEAF, according to Nissan, is merely the beginning of their EV reign in Europe.

“January has been a fantastic start to 2014, a year when we will launch our second 100 percent electric model in Europe – the Nissan e-NV200 light commercial vehicle,” said Jean-Pierre Diernaz, Director of Electric Vehicles for Nissan Europe.

“Our most recent survey following the launch of the improved European-built Nissan LEAF shows that 97 percent of owners would recommend a Nissan LEAF to a friend, and we believe this, combined with a rapidly expanding charging infrastructure, will bring further growth in 2014. We are moving from the early adopters to the early majority.”

The results of that survey Diernaz mentioned cannot be overstated. At this point, EVs have largely conquered early criticisms and drawbacks and are extremely practical vehicles. As both a practical and environmentally friendly driving solution, the 2014 Nissan LEAF is poised to continue dominating the European landscape in 2014.

There’s no reason Europe should have all the EV fun, though. Come see us at Bates Nissan to turn over a new LEAF today!

Wrap up of 2013 for Nissan

As the year comes to an end soon, we wanted to take a look back at the wrap up of 2013 brought Nissan.

In January 2013, Nissan began manufacturing the LEAF, Nissan’s first all-electric car, in the Smyrna, Tenn. plant.

“Bringing assembly of the innovative 2013 Nissan LEAF to our award-winning manufacturing plant speaks to the flexibility, efficiency and talent of our U.S. workforce,” said Susan Brennan, Nissan’s vice president of manufacturing in Smyrna. “Nissan has a 30-year history of building quality vehicles in Smyrna, and just like every vehicle we produce, the LEAF has met or exceeded every one of our rigorous quality requirements.”

In June 2013, the 2014 Nissan Note hit showrooms across the country, starting at $13,990. Following the redesign of the Altima, Pathfinder and Sentra, the Note was the fourth new product for Nissan. The Versa Note joins the second-generation Versa Sedan and is “aggressively designed, equipped, packaged and priced, serving notice to the competition that Nissan intends to remain the key player in the Entry segment for a long time to come,” said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing.

Diaz continued by saying, “With class-leading fuel economy, cutting-edge technologies, an energetic exterior design, roomy and versatile interior and available activity enhancing features such as Pandora radio compatibility and hands-free text messaging assistant, Versa Note is an ideal fit for today’s buyers needs.”

In July 2013, the LEAF reached its 100,000th Electric Vehicle sold in the U.S. This vehicle was sold in Atlanta, Georgia on July 24, 2013 to Allison Howard.

“It’s economical. It is something I could afford as a college student. It drives perfectly. It’s so cool, and that’s why I wanted to get a LEAF,” said Howard.

In August 2013, Nissan announced their benchmarks for Autonomous Drive and by the end of November, the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, took the Nissan LEAF on its first road test.

A lot more has happened this year, but we’re looking forward to what 2014 will bring Bates Nissan and Nissan as a whole.

While new to consumers, the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder has been reviewed by all the industry experts. Here is what a few of them had to say:

“Adapt or die. This Darwinian adage applies to birds, business and, well, family SUVs. And so the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder adapts to the needs of consumers by breaking away from its trucklike, off-road-ready roots to become a more comfortable, car-based, family-ready crossover SUV.” (Edmunds.com)

“From a design standpoint, the interior has indeed made the transition from traditional SUV to more refined crossover. The outgoing cabin was awash in cold colors and sharp angles, giving it a work-before-play feel. On the other hand, this 2013 Pathfinder offers an inviting interior, especially when outfitted with the nicer leather upholstery available on the SL and Platinum trims. The sharp edges of the old dashboard have been smoothed out, hands find soft-touch materials on nearly every surface, and thoughtful touches like padded leather on the doors go the extra step to make this Pathfinder seem more like a tall luxury sedan than a rugged all-rounder.” (Autoblog.com)

“A longer wheelbase, wider stance and lower overall height give the SUV a more stable feel, while a retuned suspension and advanced traction and stability systems help keep body roll in check through corners. The revised Pathfinder suspension setup does an equally commendable job of soaking up road imperfections when you’re in cruise mode. The latest iteration of Nissan’s Xtronic CVT automatic matches well with its new V6, endowing the Pathfinder with a responsive character that complements its newfound economy and still provides a standard 5,000-pound towing capacity. Also noteworthy is the optional All-Mode 4×4-i intelligent 4-wheel-drive system that enhances all-season security and also offers a full-lock setting for use on particularly challenging surfaces.” (kbb.com)

To see the new Nissan pathfinder for yourself, join Bates Nissan at our Pathfinder Launch Party on Thursday, January 24 from 4:30-7:30pm. We can’t wait to see you!
