Look out, LEAF, there is another Nissan electric vehicle in the works, this time shocking the commercial sector with the introduction of the new Nissan NV200 electric minivan.
One of the Nissan NV200 prototypes has been used by FedEx since December. The NV200 was also chosen as a new electric taxi model by several cities, including London and New York, where it won the Taxi of Tomorrow competition.
The NV200 uses the same powertrain as the LEAF, and is positioned to compete against the electric Ford Transit Connect in the commercial delivery van market. Aside from the fuel savings provided by electric fleet vehicles, Nissan says they are especially well-suited for delivery use. Since many delivery vans are often loaded inside warehouses, electric vehicles can go further into those enclosed spaces without producing harmful emissions.
The new Nissan NV200 is powered by a 24-kWh lithium ion battery pack and an 80-kilowatt motor. Engine ratings are 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque.
