Used Car Market Expected to Increase this Year

After an extreme economy downfall that we saw in the United States, there were a lot of drawbacks for car markets because it was becoming harder to afford a vehicle. Well, now that the economy is on the rise, the used car market is expected to increase in 2014.

“With the U.S. economy improving while dealers and banks are writing auto loans to a wider array of buyers, used vehicles sales from franchised dealers will reach their highest level since 2005,” said Phillip LeBeau, CNBC Auto and Airline Reporter.

Because more customers are now able to receive the loans they need for a vehicle purchase, more vehicles are being driven off of lots. In 2013, 15.6 million used vehicles were sold, and that number is expected to reach about 16 million or more.

Along with a better economy, it is predicted that the price of vehicles on the used car market will decrease as well. With current prices ranging in the mid-teens, there can hope to be a decrease to the lower-teens or even into single digit prices, for some vehicles.

So this year make a resolution to come by and get a used car, truck, or SUV from Bates Nissan. It will be worth the stop!

Wrap up of 2013 for Nissan

As the year comes to an end soon, we wanted to take a look back at the wrap up of 2013 brought Nissan.

In January 2013, Nissan began manufacturing the LEAF, Nissan’s first all-electric car, in the Smyrna, Tenn. plant.

“Bringing assembly of the innovative 2013 Nissan LEAF to our award-winning manufacturing plant speaks to the flexibility, efficiency and talent of our U.S. workforce,” said Susan Brennan, Nissan’s vice president of manufacturing in Smyrna. “Nissan has a 30-year history of building quality vehicles in Smyrna, and just like every vehicle we produce, the LEAF has met or exceeded every one of our rigorous quality requirements.”

In June 2013, the 2014 Nissan Note hit showrooms across the country, starting at $13,990. Following the redesign of the Altima, Pathfinder and Sentra, the Note was the fourth new product for Nissan. The Versa Note joins the second-generation Versa Sedan and is “aggressively designed, equipped, packaged and priced, serving notice to the competition that Nissan intends to remain the key player in the Entry segment for a long time to come,” said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing.

Diaz continued by saying, “With class-leading fuel economy, cutting-edge technologies, an energetic exterior design, roomy and versatile interior and available activity enhancing features such as Pandora radio compatibility and hands-free text messaging assistant, Versa Note is an ideal fit for today’s buyers needs.”

In July 2013, the LEAF reached its 100,000th Electric Vehicle sold in the U.S. This vehicle was sold in Atlanta, Georgia on July 24, 2013 to Allison Howard.

“It’s economical. It is something I could afford as a college student. It drives perfectly. It’s so cool, and that’s why I wanted to get a LEAF,” said Howard.

In August 2013, Nissan announced their benchmarks for Autonomous Drive and by the end of November, the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, took the Nissan LEAF on its first road test.

A lot more has happened this year, but we’re looking forward to what 2014 will bring Bates Nissan and Nissan as a whole.

Nissan “Your Door to More” Contest Winners Announced

2014 Nissan Versa Note | Your Door to More Contest

All “Your Door to More” videos had to feature the 2014 Nissan Versa Note.

Remember back in July when we announced the Nissan “Your Door to More” contest? Well the judges have spoken and three winners have been picked.

In case you don’t remember, the contest asked you to make a six-to-15 second video using Instagram or Vine to show the Versa Note doing something you’re passionate about. Six winners were picked to win $1,000 Amazon.com gift cards and “the top three winners would have their videos featured in a Nissan TV ad to promote the Versa Note.”

“There are a lot of really creative people using Vine and Instagram,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marking, Nissan North America. “We’re still trying to figure out the smoke and mirrors used to create several of the videos. This was a good social media experiment and a great way for Nissan to promote the all-new Versa Note.”

Make sure you check out the winning videos below, and then stop in to Bates Nissan to test drive one today!

Nissan Recall of Nearly One Million Vehicles Worldwide

2013 Infiniti M affected in Nissan Recall

The Infiniti M is affected in the Nissan Recall.

Nissan announced a recall of 908,900 vehicles worldwide, with nearly 100,000 models being affected in the United States.

This recall has been announced due to the lack of acceleration in Japanese models like the Serena, X-Trail, Lafesta and Fuga, and the United States model the Infiniti M sedan. At this time, no official recall notice has been released; however Nissan did confirm the recall with Reuters.

“The accelerator pedal’s sensor could become unstable, potentially resulting in less-than-intended acceleration and in worst case, a stalled engine,” said spokesman Chris Keeffe. No accidents or injuries have been reported to Nissan.

If your vehicle is affected by this Nissan recall, bring it into Bates Nissan and our service department will replace the accelerator pedals and the engine control program will be fixed to address the problem. Total repairs will take about 90 minutes.

Best Used Vehicles at Bates Nissan

We all know buying a car can be difficult and buying a used car can sometimes be worse, but Edmunds released their “best of the best” used cars on the market right now, and we’re lucky enough to have three on the Bates Nissan lot.

These vehicles were picked based on the reliability, safety, value and availability and these were based largely on consumer reports. All models picked were between the model years of 2006-2011.

The Hyundai Elantra was named the best compact sedan. The Elantra “offers solid build quality, reliability and operating economy” according to Edmunds. We believe the 2011 model to be the best though because of the roomier interior and luxury features such as keyless ignition/entry and heated rear seats.

2011 Ford Mustang GT | Used Vehicles

2011 Ford Mustang GT

The Toyota Prius was named the best hybrid vehicle on the market currently. This vehicle will offer excellent fuel economy, no matter which year you consider. The 2010 model was redesigned with the driver and passengers in mind by providing a roomier interior with height-adjustable seats and a telescoping steering wheel adjustment.

The Ford Mustang GT was named the best used performance car. These “modern Mustangs provide plenty of fun along with a measure of practicality,” according to Edmunds and the acceleration and handling are both worth taking a look at.

Stop in to see our vehicles that we have in stock and we’ll gladly help you to find the best fit. To see the full list of best used vehicles, visit Edmunds.com.
