Every year, Trunk or Treat events are becoming more and more popular. These events are held as an alternative to the traditional door-to-door trick or treating. They are usually hosted by a church, school, or other community organization and offer a safe environment for children to fully enjoy Halloween.
The key to a great trunk or treat event is good decorations and costumes. Here are a few great suggestions on how to decorate your car for a trunk or treat.
- Pick a cohesive theme. Choose a theme that your whole family and car can work with, for example, your family could dress up as characters from The Wizard of Oz and the trunk of your car can be the yellow brick road, Munchkinland, or The Emerald City.
- Choose a vehicle with a spacious cargo area. The more room you have for decorations, the better. If you have a vehicle with a hatch opening, like a minivan, these are ideal, since you can hang overhead decorations from the hatch.
- Use kid-friendly decorations. Most trunk or treat events are geared towards young children—think elementary school age—and scary decorations are not allowed. If you use monsters, try to avoid things that are overly gory and spooky.
- Incorporate games. To make the event even more fun for kids, try to add some kind of game or activity that the kids have to try before they get their candy, like “I Spy” (they have to find hidden objects in your decorations) or a fishing game with magnetic fishing poles.
Get the kids dressed up and join us at Bates Nissan this Halloween, Saturday, October 31st, from 12-4pm to trick or treat with us at Bates Nissan! Chapter 147 of the Disabled American Veterans needs your help, with a small gesture that will make a big difference: They need about 2,000 American flags to decorate the graves of those buried at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
These small flags are a mere 58 cents each, making it incredibly easy for anyone to pitch in and help out. It doesn’t seem like much, but in mass quantities, 58 cents adds up quickly. You can help save the veterans group more than $1,000.
The veterans group has been historically purchasing the flags and then re-using them until they wear out, but recently, cemetery growth has caused a high demand that’s become too difficult for the group to bear on its own.
If you’d like to help purchase flags for veterans’ graves, you can send a check, made out to DAV Chapter 147 at P.O. Box 1149, Killeen, TX, 76540, and you can call Randy Brumagim at (254) 681-4515 for more information.
Crossovers are quickly becoming one of the most popular automotive segments in the United States, and that means good news for Nissan fans. Starting next year, Bates Nissan will begin offering the Nissan Qashqai, currently the Rogue’s European counterpart.
The Nissan Qashqai is about 10 inches shorter than the American Rogue and sits on a wheelbase that is 2 inches shorter. While it has less cargo space, it offers a more stylish rear design. It should appeal to those seeking a CUV for the lifestyle and not the utility, or possibly provide a solution for Nissan customers seeking more choices in crossovers.
Alongside the Qashqai, 2016 will also see the arrival of a Rogue Hybrid, a rumor we’ve heard before. So far, there are no details as to what it will have under the hood, or what will power the Qashqai (potentially an ultra-efficient 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine or something similar), but we’re bound to find out soon!
The Nissan Murano was recently named a 2015 Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Murano scored “Good” ratings in all five of the IIHS safety tests, earning it the highest honor a vehicle can receive.
Fred Diaz, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing and Parts & Service for Nissan, said, “This Murano has once again raised the bar for Midsize Crossovers in terms of modern styling, levels of interior refinement, luxury and technology in its class. At Nissan we are happy to the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus rating to the list.”
Being awarded a Top Safety Pick Plus rating doesn’t come easily either. IIHS raised their standards for the tests two years ago, requiring vehicles to earn “advanced” or “superior” ratings in the front crash prevention tests, which the Murano did.
If you’re interested in testing out one of the most stylish and safest vehicles on the road, come visit us at Bates Nissan and take a ride in the all-new Murano.

Nissan production is healthier than ever right now—and, in fact, the brand’s Mexican assembly plant in Aguascalientes recently hit a production milestone of 200,000 vehicles. The A2 manufacturing complex recently shipped a Nissan Sentra SR to Chicago—the 200,000th vehicle to roll off the line. There’s actually two plants in the complex, and each of them can produce a Sentra in under a minute.
With that sort of efficiency and production, it’s no wonder that the Aguascalientes plant posts such impressive numbers now. It’s also a subset of Nissan’s overall production health right now. “Nissan Mexicana is considered the benchmark for the brand in the world,” Airton Cousseau, head of Nissan’s Mexican operations, said. “It’s No. 1 in production [in Mexico] and the first in exports, more than in Japan.”
In fact, the brand hopes to make up to 1 million vehicles per year in Mexico once 2017 rolls around. Fortunately, much of that production feeds into the American market, so come see us at Bates Nissan today to learn more about all these great vehicles!

The 2016 Nissan GT-R 45th Anniversary Gold Edition also has a commemorative plaque located on the center console, in case you ever forget that you’re driving a gold-colored car while driving.

The new Nissan Rogue was recently named to Kelley Blue Book’s (KBB) “10 Best AWD Vehicles under $25,000.” Featuring available third row seating, the latest driver assist technologies, and incredible performance, it’s easy to see why the Rogue was named among the best cars on the market.
According to Nissan, the 2015 Rogue handling is one of the major features KBB editors were most impressed with. Aside from state-of-the-art AWD, the new model also has Advanced Ride Control, Active Trace Control, and Active Engine braking among other things.
“Featuring Advanced Ride Control, Active Trace Control, and Active Engine Braking among many other features, with a premium look and feel, Rogue is a solid entry in the marketplace. We are ecstatic that the Rogue has been recognized by Kelley Blue Book,” said Dan Mohnke, Nissan Chief Marketing Manager.
The Rogue also comes with premium seating and extra cargo room. EZ Flex Seating helps drivers and passengers stay comfortable – something you might not realize is important until you have it. All things considered, it’s no wonder KBB chose the Rogue as a top pick.
