2017 Nissan Juke

The 2017 Nissan Juke may not be the most popular crossover, but no one can deny that it has a unique style. The raised headlights and athletic wheels add a sporty look to the crossover. That’s just part of why drivers love the model. Here’s a quick look from us here at Bates Nissan at what makes the Nissan Juke so appealing.

Despite its small size, the Nissan Juke certainly packs a punch. The 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine tears past the competition with 188 horsepower. On top of that, the 2017 Juke earns up to an EPA-estimated 32 mpg on the highway.*

Available all-wheel drive provides more traction and responsive controls. An Integrated Control System allows drivers to select a driving mode (Normal, Sport, Eco, and D-Mode), manage the cabin temperature, and more.

All Nissan Juke models come equipped with a standard RearView Monitor. The Nissan Intelligent Key® allows drivers to easily access their vehicle without reaching for the key fob. Push Button Ignition allows for a quicker start when you’re short on time.

A family crossover at heart, the 2017 Nissan Juke makes no sacrifices. All models come equipped with full air bag and Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems. Drivers also have the option of adding various active safety features to their Nissan Juke.

Nissan Sponsors BET Awards

Nissan doesn’t only love cars. That’s why for the fourth consecutive year, Nissan is sponsoring the BET Awards.

The BET Awards and BET Experience took place this year from June 22-25 in Los Angeles. The BET Awards are important because they’re not only a way to celebrate the achievements of those in the film industry, but also a way to celebrate African Americans’ contributions to everything entertainment.

The BET Awards and BET Experience include everything from live music to celebrity appearances and impactful speakers. This year’s award show was hosted by none other than the inimitable Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones.

Nissan’s sponsorship of the BET Awards included accenting BET’s glamorous red carpet with an equally glamorous 2017 Rogue Sport and 2017 GT-R. Attendees got to test-drive the Midnight Edition of multiple models the day before the awards in the Nissan Dome.

“The BETE Awards are the largest celebration of black culture and achievement and we are excited to be a part of this important celebration for the fourth consecutive year,” said Jeremy Tucker, Nissan’s Vice President, Marketing Communications and Media.

Whether you love Nissan, BET, or both, you can always come down to Bates Nissan to find the ideal car for you.

Nissan LEAF Challenges Tesla with ProPILOT

Nissan is always looking for new ways to push the envelope. One way they’re challenging norms is by taking innovation to the next level. The Nissan LEAF has innovations that are sure to beat out even the toughest competition.

The Nissan LEAF features an all-new technology that wows both critics and car enthusiasts. It’s called “ProPILOT Assist” and it gives drivers the extra help and ultimate convenience on the highway.

Most drivers can agree that one of the most annoying parts about highway driving is the stop-and-go traffic that can happen. ProPILOT aims to address this issue and lessen the anxiety of high-volume traffic by using technology to drive for you… kind of.

ProPILOT helps drivers by controlling steering, braking, and acceleration. Drivers can use ProPILOT in a single lane on the highway, acting like an amped-up version of cruise control. This challenges the popular Tesla 3’s new cruise control technology with features that help you while still making sure you’re paying attention to the road.

The Nissan LEAF rivals the Tesla in both affordability and technology. There’s a reason the LEAF is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle. If you’re curious about the Nissan LEAF and ProPILOT technology, we’re always here to answer questions at Bates Nissan.

2017 Nissan Armada Named Popular Mechanics SUV of the Year

The 2017 Nissan Armada has been named the Popular Mechanics SUV of the Year in the annual Popular Mechanics Automotive Excellence Awards, which was presented in conjunction with the 2017 New York International Auto Show. The nine awarded vehicles are featured in the May issue of Popular Mechanics, on sale now.

Look Out for These Warnings Signs from Your Brakes: Something is Wrong

Of the many factors that work together to make sure your car drives smoothly, safely, and efficiently, perhaps none are more important than your brakes. It’s vital to keep your brakes in excellent shape and to be on the lookout for brake damage.

How will you know if there’s something wrong with your brakes? Here are some warning signs to look for:

  • Squeaking or groaning sounds. A weird sound every now and then may just be a fluke, but if your brakes are singing to an unusual tune every time you press them, something is wrong.
  • Your car pulls to one side every time you brake. This likely means that you brake lines are eroding, unevenly, or that there may be debris mixed with your brake fluid.
  • The whole car vibrates when you hit the brakes. Does your vehicle come to a stop, while vibrating the whole way there? This could indicate warped rotors, which could wear your brakes down – fast.
  • They just aren’t working as well. Is your car not slowing down as quickly as it should? Do you have to push the pedal the whole way down? These are telltale signs.

If you think you’ve detected some warnings signs from your brakes, don’t hesitate to give us a call at Bates Nissan, and we’ll set you up with someone in our service department.

Should I Buy or Lease A Car?

Choosing a new car is difficult enough. But once you’re done with that, you still have to figure out the best way to finance it. If you’re wondering whether you should buy or lease a car, the answer is: it depends. It depends on your lifestyle and the vehicle. Here are some things to consider.

What will you use it for?

If you want something upscale and fancy that you’ll use to impress at work or with clients, then leasing can be a good option. Leasing a car lets you pay less per-month than you would if you were buying, and often with no down payment. This means that you can get fancier cars for a lower cost.

But, if you want a car that will be reliable, safe, and last you a long time, then buying is the better choice. You can get something with the latest safety features and engine options that will last you far beyond the span of a lease.

Where will you take it?

If your first answer is “far,” then leasing isn’t for you. Lease agreements come with limited mileage per/year, and if you go over the mileage you’re allotted it can add up quickly. Plus, at the end of the lease, you’ll have to pay for any damage beyond the normal wear and tear. Neither of these things are a factor when buying a car.

Thinking these things through will help you understand whether leasing or buying is right for you. Both have their ups and downs, but one is sure to fit your lifestyle better than the other.

2WD, 4WD and AWD Explained

In the automotive industry, there’s a fair amount of jargon to learn. Take 2WD for instance. What sets that apart from AWD? Here we’ll help you understand the differences between 2WD, 4WD and AWD and which you should choose.

2WD vehicles use either front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive, where either of the pairs gets all of the power and pulls along the other wheels. This is common in smaller cars, and is the standard for most. It’s a little trickier to drive in extreme weather conditions, but still very possible. Go with front-wheel drive for the best 2WD handling in snow or rain.

Four-wheel drive is an on-and-off features that the driver can then turn on when needed. Once on, 4WD sends power to all four wheels, making it easier to control the vehicle in snow, mud, or any sticky situation. 4WD is ideal for drivers in very snowy climates.

Like 4WD, all-wheel drive uses all four wheels. However, AWD is always on and operates by using sensors to detect which wheel needs the most power at any given time. In other words, your car will correct itself if it begins sliding. However, since you’re relying on computers, you won’t always get the best response in extreme conditions. For that reason, AWD is best for those that live in areas with light rain and snow.

Even if you are not a fan of waking up early in the morning, it’s important to get products before they sell-out in stores. Because the deals are so impressive during this shopping holiday, it’s highly likely that you will not be able to find the deal you want unless you are at the store early. The early start can get you a prime spot in line before stores are even open.

Next, shop around and do your homework. Many stores have a number of deals—make sure to compare the prices of major retailers in order to find the best deals. There are also a number of apps and websites that can help you as well, but be sure to check print ads too. It’s also important to call ahead if a deal sounds too good to be true—no point in wasting time on a phony deal.

Finally, set a budget and prioritize. Odds are you won’t be able to find everything you are looking for. If you know something that’s really important to you, set it as a priority and get it first. It is a good idea to sit down and make a list before you head out. Also, set a strict budget if you can, and be sure to stick to it. No sense in maxing out credit cards if you don’t have to.

Thanksgiving Recipe Twists: New Takes on Old Dishes

Happy Thanksgiving surrounded by fall border

Thanksgiving is all about food. That is exactly why we’ve written a post about classic dishes, as well as new takes on these traditional recipes. While turkey, cranberries, and beans are featured at a number of dinner tables around the country, there are some easy ways to mix things up this holiday season. Here are just some of many Thanksgiving recipe twists you can use to add variety to your table.

According to Country Living, the turkey is the iconic feature of nearly every meal on this holiday. Though fairly straightforward, if not time consuming, the turkey is an easy crowd pleaser. However, there are some easy ways to mix things up without putting off conservative—or shall we say picky?—eaters. To begin, try brining the turkey the night before to add some flavor and to preserve the juices. If you’re thinking about garnishes, don’t add anything that wilts easily. Try bay leaves, figs, and kumquats, as well as citrus leaves.

Next, move from the glob of cranberry mush to the real thing. Fresh cranberries are bitter, sweet, and truly complex. Adding some spices like star anise, allspice, and fresh orange juice can really make the flavor pop. Mixing in other berries may also be a treat for those who have a sweet tooth; in fact, the original settlers had an entire spread of berries for the first Thanksgiving.

Finally, get some green beans—fresh ones. Though green bean casserole is a staple for many, try substituting some fresh cut green beans with butter and candied bacon. This sweet-and-savory combo is the perfect addition to the table, especially for those who love complex flavors. Plus, bacon makes everything tastier, right?

Like we said before, these are just a few of the many ways you can mix up your Thanksgiving dinner.  So whether you stick with tradition or use some Thanksgiving recipe twists, be sure to enjoy the holiday with family and friends and be thankful for the great food!
