Redesigned Nissan Maxima: Not Just a Big Altima

If we had asked you what Nissan’s flagship model was last year, odds are your answer would have been the Nissan Altima. By all logic, you’re right. The Altima sold 336,000 units in 2014. Reviews are fantastic and they’re easily recognizable on the road. So you probably wouldn’t have believed us if we had told you the Maxima was the real flagship.

Nissan agreed with this sentiment, after the Maxima sold only 50,000 units in 2014. The engineers did their part and made sure to bring the Maxima and a certain logo out of an early retirement. Headlining next year, the redesigned Nissan Maxima: Four Door Sports Car.

The all-new Maxima has five trim levels: S, SV, SL, SR, and Platinum. The base model, S, comes fully loaded with plenty of convenience features many other automakers consider optional, like navigation and remote start. The “4DSC” logo is hidden away in the headlight and taillight lenses.

The interior of the Maxima looks and feels like an airplane cockpit, just as you’d expect from a sports car. Under the hood is a 3.5L V6 engine that can hit 300 hp with a press of the gas pedal. Fuel economy hasn’t been forgotten: 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city.

You can find the Tennessee-built 2016 Nissan Maxima on lots this summer. Starting price: $32,410, a bargain if we’ve ever seen one.
